It’s June, and we’re giving you an update on what are probably the most important, recent stories in gaming. Beyond controversy, these are game industry insights to help you anticipate what big things could be happening next in the world of gaming.

PlayStation: State of Play

PlayStation had their State of Play broadcast, showing off new games to come to the console. Several notable game trailers were showcased, like God of War: Ragnarok (PC edition). God of War: Ragnarok will reportedly need a PlayStation Network account even when being played on PC, which also apparently means that the game will be unavailable in at least 177 countries that don’t have access to the PSN services. They also showcased more of the PvP game Marvel Rivals, made by the Chinese company NetEase Games. PlayStation also revealed a similar PvP “Overwatch-style” game called Concord, to mixed reviews, among many other games. You can check out the full lineup here

Ubisoft: Forward

“Ubisoft Forward kicks off at 12:00 PM PT / 9:00 PM CET on June 10, offering up exclusive looks at Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, XDefiant, and more.”

It’ll be interesting to see how they address their plans for the future lineup of games, especially since it seems that Ubisoft is often criticized by players for a variety of reasons. Their newly teased game Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, featuring a black samurai in Japan, has also been the subject of criticism. I’m sure we’ll finally see gameplay. It’s safe to say we’ll also probably get some larger messaging from Ubisoft about the vision of their company, what their mission is in the future for gaming, and other corporate talk because Ubisoft does have a profoundly influential hand in trends within the gaming industry, and they’ve played a key role in how so many experience modern gaming today; from game design to monetization. We’ll likely get more information about XDefiant, an arcade shooter out now that has conjured somewhat justified comparisons to the Call of Duty series.

Xbox Game Showcase

Also, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be revealed on June 9 after the Xbox Games Showcase. The live-action trailer features look-alikes for George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, Margaret Thatcher, and Saddam Hussein…it’s interesting. A new DOOM game is supposed to be revealed as well, called “Doom: The Dark Ages,” following a critically acclaimed Doom: Eternal (2020).

Toys for Bob

The developers behind the remake of the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro Trilogies have announced they are now independent from Activision and are currently working on their new game to be published via Xbox. Many people are excited for their new release since they did so well with the two classic IPs, Crash and Spyro.
